Turning a Dream into an Opportunity is a bookstore that operates under the Kailor Education Center, dedicated to empowering individuals in Phonsavanh, Xieng Khouang, Laos. Our mission is to provide a free, inclusive space where students, tourists, and volunteers can engage in language practice, focusing on English and Chinese, while also receiving training in computer skills and leadership development.
We also facilitate unique workshops where individuals can write, share, and sell their biographies, thus not only preserving their stories but also generating an income through storytelling. This initiative aims to promote cultural exchange and provide authors with a platform to reach a wider audience.
Lao PDR
is one of the poorest countries in the world, with an average monthly income of $120-$180. Due to the coronavirus pandemic and current inflation, this income has fallen even further.
from 2021 to 2024, over 1,696 students left higher education, vocational education, and teacher training, while nearly 100,000 primary, lower, and upper secondary school students discontinued their education. There are multiple reasons for this situation. Poor infrastructure makes access to schools difficult and some children do not attend school because their families cannot afford the costs or because children work to support family income
